Manual Tasks Risk Assessment Tool (ManTRA) V 2.0

Developed by: The University of Queensland; Curtin University of Technology; Department of Industrial Relations, Queensland, Australia

Description: A scoring matrix to assess exposure to musculoskeletal risk factors associated with manual tasks in the workplace. The assessment should be undertaken by a team including employees who perform the task and staff responsible for manual task risk management. The tool uses ratings of duration, cycle time, force, speed, awkwardness, and vibration for several body regions and provides a "repetition risk," "exertion risk," and "cumulative risk" score for each body region.

Action may be indicated if:

  • Exertion risk score > 5,
  • Exertion risk score + awkwardness rating ≥ 8, or
  • Cumulative risk score ≥ 15
