To cater to the range of knowledge and resources in health and safety and ergonomics, we have created three parallel collections of resources for prevention of musculoskeletal disorders (MSD), called the Quick Start (General and Office), Basic and Comprehensive Guidelines.
Based on your answers to the questions below, you will be guided to the resources most likely to fit your organization. The three Guidelines share a common structure and language, so you can switch between them easily.
What size is your organization?
Do you have a Health and Safety policy and program currently in place?
Be aware of the legal requirements for workplace Health and Safety, which are outlined in Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
Do you have a management system for Health and Safety?
Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) is defined as “a coordinated system of procedures, processes and other measures that is designed to be implemented by employers in order to promote continuous improvement in occupational health and safety.” You can find more information about OHSMS at the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development website.

What is a Health and Safety policy and program?
Organizations with 6 or more employees in Ontario are required to have a Health and Safety policy and program. Start here and work towards integrating the Basic Guideline once the health and safety policy are in place.

Our employees perform most of their work in an office, sitting or standing at a desk using a computer.
Non Computer Based
Our employees perform their work in environments that are not centered around computer usage.

Our employees complete work that is both in an office setting using a computer, as well as other environments that are not computer-based.
